Sign the Petition - Systematic Synthetic Phonics

In July, the Government published their Reading Framework, promoting Systematic Synthetic Phonics (SSP) as the sole method of teaching reading.

This method does not meet the needs of all children, especially those with dyslexia. Please sign the British Dyslexia Association's petition asking the Government to support teachers to teach a range of strategies alongside phonics.

At Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity, we continue Helen Arkell’s legacy of training teachers to specialise in the provision of multisensory teaching, recognising that the use of a systematic synthetic phonic approach is only one element in the journey to developing children’s literacy skills.

Find out more about SSP and its limitations in this video discussion featuring our Head of Projects, Tory Sparks here.
