A Literacy Review is a straightforward literacy assessment using basic testing and assessment (reading, writing and spelling skills) for a child, in order to ascertain their current levels of performance and strengths and weaknesses in these areas. From the information gathered, specific learning targets can then be identified. It will not be possible for a diagnosis of dyslexia to be made, as no cognitive testing, or assessment has been carried out.
The Assessor will work with your child for between 45-60 minutes, in order to carry out the various tasks and testing needed. An overview of your child’s strengths and weaknesses in these areas of literacy will be described, as well as a detailed and structured personalised learning programme (PLP), which includes specific targets to be taught. The PLP will also give information on suggested methods and resources that may be used to achieve these. It is anticipated that the PLP would be delivered over a period of approximately six-eight weeks.
This Literacy Review is appropriate for younger children when parents do not yet wish to undertake a full diagnostic assessment, or for children who have been previously assessed and an update on current attainments and the next ‘step forward’ is desired.
