Marlene Caplan

Marlene is an experienced lecturer and tutor on the Level 7 OCR Diploma Course in the assessment and teaching of students with specific learning difficulties.  Her background as both a Specialist Teacher and Educational Psychologist bring a practical and research-base perspective to her role.  Marlene, who has a PhD in Psychology, has held previous roles in Child and Educational Psychology at Yale University and the University of London.

Marlene’s work at the Centre over the last 10 years has included tutoring on various professional development courses, workshops for parents and study skills for students, and assessments of specific learning difficulties.  She has recently co-authored the Helen Arkell Spelling Test, Version 2 (HAST-2) and the accompanying resource book Anyone Can Spell It: A Guidebook for Teachers and Parents.  While at HADC, she estimates that she has had a small role in helping hundreds of SENCOs and teachers assess, supervise, and deliver quality teaching programmes to their students.  At HADC, she particularly enjoys delivering the psychometric lectures on the Diploma training course, as she knows almost everyone loves statistics.
