Alexandra Tarn

Alexandra Tarn, BA Hons, PGCE, Diploma SpLD, APC

Alex is a Specialist Teacher/Assessor and Course Tutor on the Level 5 OCR Professional Teacher Training Course at HADC.

Alex qualified as a primary school teacher in 1995 and has taught in a number of different schools both in the UK and the Caribbean.  Alex’s interest in how children learn to read began in her first teaching job as a classroom teacher in South East London, where she encountered many children who were struggling to read using traditional methods.  Working in a Montessori School introduced her to the benefits of multisensory teaching and working in a range of schools has helped to enhance her knowledge and practice.  She believed that encouraging learners to develop an awareness and understanding of their way of thinking and learning is key to ensuring progress and self-esteem.

In recent years, Alex has worked in local Surrey school as a Learning Support Teacher and has been involved in a project at HADC researching the difficulties that children with specific learning difficulties may face as they transition to secondary education.  Alex continues to enjoy teaching and assessing at the Centre.
