Janet qualified initially as a secondary school teacher of English before training as a specialist dyslexia tutor assessor. She worked for twelve years as head of the Learning Differences Centre, the dyslexia service at the University of Southampton.
Janet currently specialises in providing assessments for older students and adults and works for a number of institutions as well as the Helen Arkell Centre. She also runs short professional development courses for assessors and tutors working in the Higher Education sector.
Janet is an active member of ADSHE (the Association of Dyslexia Specialist in HE) and is involved with the quality assurance scheme for dyslexia specialists working in HE. She also sits on the national committee STEC (SpLD Test Evaluation Committee) which evaluates suitable tests for use in post 16 assessments.
Janet has written several articles for professional journals and is co-author of Supporting Learning Differences in Higher Education, the essential practitioners’ manual.
