Karin Crane is a tutor and lecturer on the OCR Level 5 Diploma course. She is a specialist teacher and assessor, and is also an experienced SENCo for KS1 and KS2.
Karin has worked for many years within the field of special educational needs. She has taught dyslexic pupils in the primary, secondary and post 16 stages of education. She found her true vocation whilst working with young offenders, many of whom were dyslexic and had become totally disaffected with learning. Karin was inspired to become a specialist teacher when she attended an in-house training course commissioned by HADC. The course raised awareness of dyslexia and specific learning difficulties within the workplace, helping her to understand the real needs of her learners and how to she could best support and teach them.
Karin went on to complete the OCR Level 5 Diploma and Level 7 Diploma for teaching and assessing learners with specific learning difficulties, including dyslexia. She feels very lucky to have the opportunity to help students develop their own expertise in specialist teaching and assessing. She remains thoroughly committed to the work of the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre and the steadfast principles that specialist teaching uphold.
