Sandra works at HADC as a Dyslexia Specialist, based in Somerset.
Although originally trained in Early Years education, Sandra has spent most of her career working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs. Through her work she developed an interest in dyslexia, achieving a Postgraduate Diploma in Dyslexia and Literacy (Level 7). More recently, she studied with Sheffield University gaining an MSc in Language and Communication Impairment in Children, specialising in the language and literacy development of children learning English as an Additional Language.
Sandra has worked as a SENCo, Advisory Teacher, Specialist Dyslexia Teacher and Assessor for many years, providing support for children in state schools. She is particularly interested in the early identification of literacy and numeracy difficulties and in the development of effective early interventions. She particularly loves working 1:1 with primary-age children, supporting them to develop their own learning strategies.
Sandra is delighted to be part of the team at HADC and to have the opportunity to extend the support provided by the charity to children, families and schools in the South West of England.
