Sheila Watson is a Specialist Assessor, who holds a Level 7 Diploma in Assessing & Teaching Learners with SpLD and an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC).
Realising that some children did not seem to respond to conventional classroom teaching and support, Sheila was looking for some form of training that would help her improve the outcomes for these children, when Bernadette McLean, (Principal of Helen Arkell 2006-2017), delivered an inset day at her school. Inspired, Sheila enrolled on the Level 5 Specialist Teacher Course in 2005, and graduated with Merit from the Level 7 course in September 2007. On graduating, she joined the Helen Arkell team as a Specialist Assessor.
In addition to assessing, Sheila has worked as a Specialist Teacher and a Course Tutor for Teaching Assistants; she has delivered study skills courses, and courses for parents of young children and other teaching professionals. Helping a Speech and Language Therapist to deliver a course for teaching assistants supporting children with speech and language needs, Sheila developed an interest in this area.
Sheila’s real love has always been assessing, which she sees as a full-time commitment.
