Yvonne is Head of Education at Helen Arkell. She trained at the Centre in the early 1990s, with Bernadette McLean as her tutor, and never went away!
After qualifying, she worked part-time as a specialist teacher for the Centre whilst also being the part-time Dyslexia Consultant for a Hampshire junior school. She then became a course tutor on the OCR Level 5 course and the CLANSA course for teaching assistants. She was offered a full time role at the Centre as Tuition Manager and Senior Tutor, subsequently being appointed as Head of Education.
Yvonne oversees the Centre’s tuition services, is Lead Tutor on the OCR Level 5 courses and oversees the Laser Learning Level 3 course for Teaching Assistants supporting learners with specific learning difficulties, which she co-wrote with Beverley Williams. In addition, she wrote and delivers our Professional Summer School (Laser Learning Level 4 course in understanding and supporting dyslexic learners) and has devised and delivered a range of bespoke training courses and in-service training sessions to schools.
She has been Helen Arkell project manager for a number of Dyslexia SpLD Trust projects, for example a project aimed at raising dyslexia awareness in Youth Offending Teams and a project to develop an online resource base for parents.
She still loves to do some specialist teaching when other commitments allow!
