Desmond McCann

Desmond McCann has been a Trustee of Helen Arkell since 2004.  After leaving university he joined Price Waterhouse (subsequently PricewaterhouseCoopers) in London where he worked for 34 years.  He was admitted as a partner in 1983, and from 1987 to 1990 he worked in the New York office.

Most of his clients were in the oil and gas and related energy industries. He was head of the firm’s oil industry practice. Latterly he was head of technical services for the UK audit practice with responsibility for technical quality and risk management.

After his retirement Desmond spent 9 years as a member of the Financial Reporting Review Panel, which is responsible for monitoring, and where necessary intervening, to ensure that published accounts meet the standards required.

Desmond was a Governor of Argyle Primary School in Camden from 2000 to 2012 and has been a Governor of Ripley Court School in Surrey since 2008.

Since 2010 Desmond has been the part time acting finance director for Helen Arkell.

Desmond is also a co-founder and the finance director for the Ripley Farmers’ Market, which runs on Ripley village Green on the second Saturday morning of every month.  In 2011 it was the FARMA Rural Farmers’ Market of the year.
