Claire Harvey, BSc (Hons), Dip OCR (SpLD), SpLD APC, Specialist Teacher/Assessor
Claire is a tutor and lecturer on the OCR Level 5 Diploma course at HADC. She holds a Level 7 Diploma in Assessing & Teaching Learners with SpLD, an Assessment Practising Certificate and is a Specialist Assessor at HADC.
Claire works as a specialist teacher for children with specific learning difficulties. Seeing the significant difference that specialist tuition made to her own dyslexic son’s academic journey and self esteem, she is passionate about making a real difference to the lives of learners with SpLD.
Claire has worked in a large primary school as SEN Team Leader, responsible for assessing all mainstream pupils, identifying those in need of additional support, allocating them to appropriate intervention groups, teaching the weakest learners herself, and closely monitoring all pupils’ progress. She gave regular presentations to both staff and parents, sharing with parents how to support their children at home and informing staff on current theory and best practice.
In a previous career, Claire worked as a midwife and has an interest in the growing body of research surrounding the biodiversity of the brain, specifically the anatomical, cellular and connectivity differences of the dyslexic brain.
