Gilly Payne

Gilly Payne is a Tutor and the Public Relations and Social Media Manager at the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre.

She has an LLAM from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and a Dip OCR (SpLD).

Her roles include tutoring on the LASER Learning Awards Course Level 3 Certificate for Teaching Assistants, developing short courses for Teaching Assistants, running the HADC Parents’ Course and visiting schools, organisations and dyslexia associations presenting inset and information sessions.

Gilly has three dyslexic children.  She found that by encouraging their excellent verbal skills they became more confident in all they did.  This led her to retrain and begin a career teaching drama at Primary School level for twelve years. Her desire to learn more about dyslexia led her to the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre where she trained and then joined them as a Tutor.

Gilly has developed her role at the Centre and now spends time talking to parents, children and anyone else who wants to share their journey through life with dyslexia. She travels around the country lecturing, raising the profile and awareness of dyslexics and dyslexia and, most importantly, she reaches out to all dyslexics, their families, friends and colleagues.
