Julia Tarrant BA (Hons), PGCE, Dip OCR (SpLD), APC Specialist Teacher/Assessor
Julia is a tutor and lecturer on the OCR Level 5 Diploma course, as well as a specialist teacher and assessor. She is committed to helping Helen Arkell students become confident specialist teachers and in doing so, to extend understanding of dyslexia and further widen the support network available for dyslexic learners.
Julia worked for many years as a teacher within the secondary sector. As a qualified History teacher, she taught students up to GCSE level, combining this role with that of Head of Year. Having seen at close hand the difficulties and frustration felt by dyslexic learners who felt unable to fully able to engage with the curriculum, she embarked on specialist study at Helen Arkell. Following Level 5 qualification, Julia returned to work as a specialist teacher within the Learning Support Department of a large secondary school. In this, she supported dyslexic learners and worked to promote more effective strategies for teachers to support dyslexic learners within the classroom. Subsequent studies led to Level 7 qualification as a Specialist Assessor, enabling her to deepen her understanding of specific learning difficulties.
Julia very much enjoys working with those affected by, or with an interest in, dyslexia and is committed to offer support that will result in positive learning experiences and academic success.
