Rachel Gordon

Rachel is a tutor and lecturer on the Helen Arkell Level 5 Diploma course, committed to supporting students to develop their skills as specialist teachers.  She is also a Helen Arkell Specialist Assessor, assessing in Farnham and Salisbury.  In addition, Rachel works independently as a specialist teacher providing personalised tuition to learners with specific learning difficulties.  She loves to see them discover their strengths and grow in confidence as they develop new strategies for learning, which help them to succeed.
As a primary teacher, Rachel has taught in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, and has been a Year 4/5 class teacher.  Rachel’s interest in dyslexia developed as she saw pupils struggling with the pace of learning in the classroom, and wanted to support them more effectively. She was prompted to train as a specialist teacher and specialist assessor at Helen Arkell and has been delighted to join the team working at the Centre.
Prior to teaching, Rachel worked in publishing, with experience in both publicity and editorial roles.  She has also taught English as a foreign language while living abroad, and has worked with the Speech and Language Therapy Services in schools, supporting children with speech and language difficulties.
