Dyslexia CPD Writing Diagnostic Assessments for Ages 7 to 16


This course is designed for professionals who would like to update and extend their ability to carry out and write diagnostic assessments. The course includes a combination of lectures, discussion and practical activities.

Requirements for this course

Level 7 qualification in assessing learners with SpLD or equivalent.

Participants will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge in the following areas:

  • Understanding psychometric testing
  • Planning an assessment, including choosing a range of tests
  • Report writing – guidance for good practice
  • An approach to writing a report conclusion
  • Providing recommendations for support

In addition, participants will gain experience of a broad range of tests including: WRIT, CTOPP-2, TAPS-4, WIAT-IIIUK-T, WRAT-5, TOWRE-2, DRA, HAST-2, DASH, TOMAL-2

The course is accredited by the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC) and therefore suitable for the core hours of Continued Professional Development, which will be required when renewing Assessment Practising Certificates (APC). The course is delivered by experienced assessors and tutors from the Helen Arkell Centre.

N.B. Both sessions must be attended in order to meet the learning outcomes of the course.

Lunch will be provided on both days.


The Helen Arkell Centre near Farnham in Surrey.

Course participants will have the opportunity to purchase the HAST-2 at a discounted price of £35.
