Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity is looking to appoint enthusiastic, engaged Trustees (this is a voluntary, unpaid role).
Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity, based in Surrey, is one of the leading charities in the UK supporting children and adults with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties. We have a strong reputation built upon 50 years of pioneering work in this field. We currently provide direct support to over 1,000 individuals with dyslexia each year.
It is now increasingly recognised that early intervention and support can make a significant difference to people with dyslexia, in terms of self-esteem, learning and job prospects. Our services include assessments and tuition for children and adults with dyslexia; and the training of teachers, parents, schools and employers, to help people with dyslexia to receive the support they need.
The Charity has ambitious plans for growth, with a mission to double the numbers of people with dyslexia whom we help, and particularly to significantly increase our support of those from lower-income backgrounds. We have embarked upon a strategy of opening regional hubs across the country, supplemented by remote support delivered via video call and other technology. We are in the process of growing our fundraising capability, to enable us to achieve our aims.
We are looking for enthusiastic, engaged trustees with any of the following experience:
• General charity experience
• Charity governance/charity law
• Charity fundraising/marketing/communications
• Digital/IT experience
We would particularly welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds.
Trustees meetings are held via video call, and generally take place five times/year (although frequency has been increased during Covid). In addition, there are various Trustees’ sub-committees.
If you are interested in joining the Board of Trustees at this exciting time in the Charity's development, please contact the Chair of Trustees, Gary Hay, at: [email protected]
Closing date for applications: Monday 21 June 2021
