Our namesake and founder, Helen Arkell MBE, sadly passed away on 28th August.
Helen lived a full and inspirational life, as a pioneer in the world of dyslexia, pushing back boundaries of knowledge and championing the special abilities of people with specific learning difficulties.
Being dyslexic herself, Helen understood the negative effect it can have on confidence and spent many years battling to ensure it was taken seriously,by the education authorities in particular and by the public in general. She really was ahead of her time. Her influence was all the stronger because of her infectious laugh, twinkling eyes and wicked sense of humour. As well as a healthy dose of understated fearlessness, humility and a keen and perceptive mind.
If you would like to attend Helen's Memorial Service it is on Wednesday 18th September at 2pm in St. Mary's Church, Frensham GU10 3EA.
The family have requested no flowers. Donations in her memory if desired to Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity c/o Thorne-Leggett, 8-10 The Street, Wrecclesham, Farnham, Surrey. GU10 4PR.
