One to one literacy and mathematical support required

One to one Literacy and Mathematical Support required

Vacancy – One to one Literacy and Mathematical Support required for our son, who is repeating Year 1.

We require a qualified dyslexia teacher to support our son during term time at his school, Reddam House Berkshire, Wokingham RG41 5BG.  We would like this professional to deliver one to one support for literacy and Maths, withdrawing our son from these main-class lessons to provide one to one support at these times.

Our son will be repeating Year 1 in September 2020.  Whilst he does not have a formal diagnosis, the school and professionals we have consulted suspect dyslexic tendencies.  He has found the acquisition of literacy and mathematical skills very challenging and is working below the levels expected for his chronological age.  Assessment suggest that he has a high General Ability (IQ) and so is exhibiting some frustrations with the learning process. We hope that appointing a one to one specialist will help him to develop the core skills to be able to access the curriculum but do understand that this process will not be instant.

Ideally we would like the candidate to provide 1.5 hours of instructions per day, in small chunks of support for literacy, maths and phonic acquisition support, with guidance on how these could be reinforced by our son’s classroom assistant during the remainder of the school day.  We are not able to confirm the timings in the day until we receive our son’s timetable in September but anticipate that the support will be in the mornings.

We are willing to provide an enhanced hourly rate of £50 per hour for the successful candidate.  This is a self-employed opportunity, funded and managed by ourselves, as parents, but working in conjunction with the school staff.  The appointed candidate will need to fulfill the needs of Reddam House’s safer recruiting policies, including online training and a full DBS.

Applications are welcomed, to include a CV and letter of application explaining your suitability for the role.

Interviews will be conducted online, via Teams or Zoom software and are anticipated to be during week commencing 27th July.
