This research project seeks to understand how distance learning due to school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic impacts on reading skills and motivation for reading and writing of children in Years 3, 5 and 7 in the UK and Ireland. The research team’s goal is to document how learning at home unfolds during the COVID-19 outbreak, including how families and teachers interact to promote literacy skills and how practices develop during the outbreak and after schools reopen.

A research team at the University of Reading are launching a new study on supporting home-led reading activities during COVID-19 and in transition back to schools.
If you are a teacher or family of a child in Y3, 5 or 7 with poor comprehension or other SEND that may impact on their reading ability, and also children that speak English as an Additional Language, we want to hear from you!
